Like Cebuano and Boholano, this is the Spanish name for residents of the island of Masbate, who practice the generalized and largely westernized culture of the Visayas. Masbate is composed of relatively low-lying and discontinuous highland ranges surrounded by narrow strips of coastal lowlands; its poor agricultural qualities have resulted in much out-migration, especially to Palawan. Population centers are the municipalities of Masbate (55996), Aroroy (45306), San Jacinto (34185) and Uson (24817). Mining is prevalent south of Aroroy in the Conical Peak area.
