April is Earth Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness for environmental issues. To take action for Earth Week 2023, the Academic Senate’s Committee on Sustainability is hosting a number of events starting on April 18.

The Committee on Sustainability is composed of student representatives, elected faculty members from each college and other campus groups including the Facilities Management and the Campus Sustainability Committee. Anyone at ÂÌñ»»ÆÞ is welcome and encouraged to attend the Earth Week events.

There are plenty of ways to prioritize sustainability even after Earth Week has passed. Chair of the Committee on Sustainability Jason Daniels said, “One can employ sustainability practices every day, everything from reducing energy consumption, investing in reusable items, and recycling properly to shopping local and practicing alternative transportation.” These suggested practices can make a big difference when the community comes together to make a change.

“I am very excited for all of our events, in particular, tabling with and learning from nearly two dozen ÂÌñ»»ÆÞ and Bay Area groups working on sustainability on Tuesday and Thursday, the ASI picnic on Wednesday, and the Hayward Cleanup and Community Fair on Earth Day,” said Daniels. Earth Day is on April 22.

There are many ways to contribute to sustainability efforts throughout the Bay Area and on campus, so check out the list below to find ways to get involved or just learn more.
