HAYWARD, Calif. - Cal State East Bay women's water polo player Tristan Kennedy-Donohue earned Western Water Polo Association Player of the Week honors on Wednesday after leading the Pioneers to a pair of wins last week. East Bay (20-9, 9-1 WWPA) downed Concordia, 12-11, and conference opponent Cal State Monterey Bay, 11-9, on April 3 in Seaside.
The junior driver paced the Pioneers, scoring six goals on the day and added four assists and four steals while drawing two ejections. After scoring twice in the close win over Concordia, Kennedy-Donohue got to work in the second meeting with the Otters this season, notching four goals, including the eventual game winner in the fourth quarter.
The Vista, Calif., native scored two goals in the second quarter of the Monterey Bay game and put away four of her seven shots in the contest. The win allowed the Pioneers to exact revenge on the Otters, who handed East Bay its only conference loss of the season on Feb. 7. The victory also gives the Pioneers 20 wins on the season, making them the only squad in the 10-team league to reach that plateau. Kennedy-Donohue is the second Cal State East Bay player to earn conference player of the week honors this season.
The Pioneers return home this weekend for the first time since Mar. 19 to play their final contest of the season at Pioneer Pool. Cal State East Bay will face No. 17 UC San Diego on Friday at 5 p.m. East Bay will honor seniors Lauren Merrill, Brianna Finney, Lauren Griffin and Jenna Casady prior to the game.
