Pioneers to participate in Downtown Hayward Street Parties
- August 18, 2010
Hayward residents will notice some new faces at the Downtown Street Parties starting this week. As part of the Cal State East Bay Athletic Department's efforts to increase community awareness and engagement, representatives from the staff and teams will join in on the monthly parties downtown beginning Thursday, Aug. 19.
"The Hayward Downtown Street Parties provide a wonderful opportunity for our student-athletes to build relationships with the residents and organizations of Hayward," Assistant Athletics Director Dawn Ellerbe said.
This week, attendees will have the chance to meet and greet members of the Pioneer women’s volleyball team. Community members will also be able to play games and win Athletic Department prizes at the Pioneer marketing table.
The Hayward Downtown Street Parties are in their 11th year and are organized by the Hayward Chamber of Commerce. The event features booths for local merchants, community and civic organizations, and food vendors, as well as classic car shows, activities for families and live music. Crowds as large as 5,000 attend the monthly event held on the third Thursday of every month, June through September.
The Pioneers will be participating in both of the final two Downtown Street Parties, tomorrow and Sept. 18. The street parties are held on B Street, between Foothill Boulevard and Watkins Street, in downtown Hayward from 5:30-8:30 p.m.
