Cal State East Bay women's soccer team opened the 2012 campaign with an 8-1 victory over UC Merced at Pioneer Stadium. Breahna Berry led the Pioneer offensive attack with two goals. Shianna Falk and Claudia Luna each had five shots.

“We came out focused in the first half and accomplished the things the team worked on during the preseason,” Pioneer coach Amy Gerace said. “The match was good because we were able to play a lot of people.”

The Pioneers concluded the scoring in the 84th minute when Anne Dunne scored in front of the goal.

“I'm glad we got this match under our belt,” Gerace said. “We have a busy schedule this week including our CCAA opener against Sonoma State on September 9."
