Clean Vehicle Rebate Project Webinar | 5:00pm-6:00pm

This webinar explores the Clean Vehicle Rebate Project (CVRP) which promote clean vehicle adoption in California by offering rebates of up to $7,000 for the purchase or lease of new, eligible zero-emission vehicles, including battery, plug-in hybrid and fuel cell electric vehicles.

Faculty experts Amy Below, Laura Wing, and Juleen Lam from the Department of Health Science & Political Sciences will discuss where the Biden Administration stands in respect to climate change, including: domestic and international policies; new executive orders; current events; and action items! The panel will open up to a Q&A after presentations.

The Dreamt Land Keynote Speaker: Mark Arax | 6:00pm-9:00pm

Mark Arax's writings on California have been compared to the great social portraits by Steinbeck, Didion, and Saroyan. His newest book, The Dreamt Land: Chasing Water and Dust Across California, is being hailed by critics as one of the most important books ever written about the West. Everyone comes up with innovative ideas that makes life easier and solves everything from mundane to complex problems, but the difference in moving an idea out of your head and into reality comes down to one thing: execution - that commitment to doing everything you need to do to make it real. Learn from our innovative Pioneer Alumni what their experiences were in creating their own businesses and developing social innovations that are changing life in the East Bay and the world!

This afternoon we are joined by alumnus Jericho Apo, the Director of Digital Strategy at Story of Stuff to talk about the work they are doing to document and change the lifecycle of material goods.

About our guest:

Jericho is the Director of Digital Strategy at The Story of Stuff Project, an environmental nonprofit helping build a generation of environmental activists through storytelling, community engagement, and campaigning. He leads the storytelling team in creating content to tell the most important environmental stories impacting people and the planet.

Jericho was born and raised in the Philippines by a single mother and moved to the U.S. as an undocumented immigrant. He graduated magna cum laude in Sociology and was a Sustainability Ambassador responsible for marketing and communications at Cal State East Bay's Office of Sustainability. Today, he is the Director of Digital Strategy at The Story of Stuff Project, an environmental nonprofit helping build a generation of environmental activists through storytelling, community engagement, and campaigning. He leads the storytelling team in creating content that tells the most important environmental stories impacting people and the planet.

Relax, stretch and chill. This class is mellow but still challenging as it starts off slow and builds heat through various sequenced poses. A large portion of the class session is spent stretching. This class is GREAT for beginners and all levels. A great way to limber up and de-stress, and consider setting intentions related to the social (people) and environmental (planet) aspects of sustainable and healthy communities.

Learn from our innovative Pioneer Alumni what their experiences were in creating their own businesses and developing social innovations that are changing life in the East Bay and the world!

This evening we are joined by alumnus Amer Orabi, the COO & Co-Founder of PATHWATER, a bottled water company that provides the first 100% reusable, recyclable bottled water in a sturdy aluminum bottle. In his position, Amer leads all of the internal controls of the business including P&L and cash flow management, and oversees the day-to-day operations of the business. Prior to founding PATHWATER, Amer led operations at Exumme, LLC - an innovative tech startup.

Join us for this 1 hour panel discussion and Q&A with young leaders of the intersectional environmental and climate justice movement. CSU is hosting Environmental Digital Strategist, Kristy Drutman; Educator Sage Lenier; Founder & Executive Director of OneUpAction, Kevin J. Patel; Bay Area Hub Coordinator, Myroslava Fisun; and Sustainability Officer, Armando Sepulveda; all leaders in the climate activist movement. This event will be followed by 30 minute, action-oriented break-out discussions.

Film screening and dialogue on the film Nuclear Savage: Featuring recently declassified U.S. government documents, survivor testimony, and unseen archival footage, Nuclear Savage uncovers one of the most troubling chapters in modern American history: how Marshall islanders, considered an uncivilized culture, were deliberately used as human guinea pigs to study the effects of nuclear fallout on human beings.

 

Mental Health Moves with CalFresh Self Care and Skin Care Workshop |12:00pm-1:00pm

Join us for a free virtual workshop on creating sustainable and all-natural facial scrub and mask. All materials will be supplied and shipped to the first 40 participants who registered. Students will also learn about self-care techniques while creating their masks. And tutorials will be given applying for Cal Fresh so you can use your benefits to buy all of the materials on your own next time. Lastly, discover what the student health center counseling services offer for students during finals.

Saturdays of Service (SoS) is a monthly initiative that provides community service opportunities for Cal State East Bay students. Students have the opportunity to make a direct impact in Hayward or in their own communities. Students who participate in a Saturday of Service have the opportunity to receive an I Serve East Bay t-shirt. For Earth Week we are hosting a virtual community cleanup where students can go out on their own to beautify their neighborhoods.

The videos will be followed by live breakout room discussions with Honorees from the ISSP Hall of Fame who are luminaries in the sustainability profession. In addition, we’ll be enjoying the talents of special guest Liza Donnelly.

This video includes shares a healthy dose of information about electric vehicles (EV) by sharing fun facts. You might even see some campus students & faculty highlight their EV's favorite features! Video will be available on Parking & Transportation's website.

  
Free Immigration Services

Schedule an appointment to meet with an Immigration Attorney. The Immigration Legal Defense is working with the ÂÌñ»»ÆÞ to provide free services regarding citizenship, DACA resources, deportation defense, green cards, naturalization, and more! Appointments available in April & May too. Appointment slot open from 2:00pm - 7:00pm. Contact martin.castillo@csueastbay.edu to make an appointment.
