Greg Jennings, PhD
Educational Psychology Department Chair, Professor
Dr. Jennings’ current research and professional interests are in students’ resiliency, the marked capacity of individuals to cope with and overcome setbacks and stressors. He has presented nationally on the role of the school psychologist in promoting student coping and resources through family, school, and community systems. Current research focuses on individual, school, and family sources of resiliency among diverse, urban youth. Dr. Jennings teaches courses in mental health consultation, individual development, assessment, delivery of school psychology services, and supervision. He consults as a school psychologist in the Bay Area.
Oanh Tran, PhD
Professor, Fall and Spring Co-Director
Dr. Tran has experience working with diverse and at-risk populations in public and nonpublic schools as well as residential, foster care, outpatient, and in-home settings. Dr. Tran's research and professional interests include promoting social and emotional learning, academic and behavioral consultation and assessment, special education, response to intervention, positive behavioral supports, and parent-training. She has presented locally and nationally and has published articles, chapters, and prevention curricula in the area of children's mental health. Dr. Tran collaborates with schools and communities to enhance academic and emotional learning for K-12 students.
Kristin Porter, LMFT
Summer Director and Fall Co-Director
Kristin Porter, LMFT is a multi-faceted, versatile, and integrative trauma-informed therapist working with individuals, couple, and families for over 20 years. She is experienced in Mindfulness Meditation and Facilitation, Family Systems, Internal Family Systems, EMDR, Polyvagal Theory, Healing Shame, Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy and The Comprehensive Resource Model. Kristin began supervising School Psychology, Counseling and MFT students/ trainees at ÂÌñ»»ÆÞ in 2010. She has been in ongoing trauma-informed consultation with Rachel Walker for over 5 years and continues to be a Facilitator for Ms. Walker’s “At the Crossroads of Trauma Therapy” Workshops. Kristin is also in ongoing consultation for Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy and Trauma Informed Therapy.
Kavita Kaur Atwal, PhD
Assistant Professor
Dr. Atwal is a Nationally Certified School Psychologist. She has worked in K-12 public schools in Riverside, Compton, Yucaipa, Glendale, Chicago, Huntington Beach, and San Jose, and has held roles as a School Psychologist, Educationally Related Mental Health Services (ERMHS) Provider, Response-to-Intervention (RTI)/MTSS Specialist, and Behavioral Consultant. Dr. Atwal’s research and professional interests are in the areas of bullying prevention and improving mental health outcomes for culturally, linguistically, and religiously diverse students, and multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) implementation. She is also an Executive Committee member of the Asian American Psychological Association (AAPA).
Amy Allen, PhD, LMFT
Clinical Supervisor
Dr. Allen is a school psychologist at the Diagnostic Center of Northern California under the California Department of Education. She is a Nationally Certified School Psychologist and holds a Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) Credential in School Counseling. She served as a children’s therapist in the Los Angeles area providing trauma-informed care to the Koreatown and Watts communities in non-profit mental health clinics, primarily providing intensive therapy to children and families who had undergone significant traumas. She is certified in Trauma-Focused CBT (TF-CBT), School-Based Trauma-Focused CBT, and The Community Resilience Model (CRM). She has worked in K-12 public schools in Westminster, Riverside, Yucaipa, Monrovia, Daly City, Atherton, and San Mateo. Dr. Allen began supervising School Psychology and MFT students/trainees at ÂÌñ»»ÆÞ in 2022.
Maya Anderson, LMFT, LEP
Clinical Supervisor
Maya Anderson is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Educational Psychologist with over 15 years working in schools with children and families. Her professional experience includes individual and group counseling and specialization in the assessment of autism, other health impairment, and concerns related to emotional disturbance. She began her work in schools as a behavior technician, later gaining experience as a special education teacher (moderate-severe) before becoming a school psychologist and school based therapist.
Maya currently operates a private clinical practice in the south bay where she primarily works with adults to manage anxiety, depression and adjustment issues. She is a founding member of Resilient Minds Collective- a group practice where she focuses on early school psychology coaching, supervision and assessment. Most recently, she is undergoing training to become a CAMFT certified supervisor for the state.
John A Barakos, MA, LMFT
Clinical Supervisor
John A Barakos is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) with 20 years experience in private practice. He has 12 years of experience in school based mental health as a contracted counselor for school districts. He has experience in the in-patient mental health field and taken part in community presentations on issues affecting youth in our communities. He specializes in treatment with at-risk adolescents, treatment resistant clients and work with crisis issues. He has been a Clinical Supervisor for 8 years at both John F. Kennedy University and Cal State East Bay. He is a professor and teaches Psychopharmacology, Crisis in Schools, Assessment and Practicum. He is passionate about facilitating student’s education from a real world perspective and helping the field evolve with a diverse perspective.
Ashley McDaid, NCSP, LMFT, LEP
Clinical Supervisor
Ashley is a credentialed School Psychologist, Nationally Certified School Psychologist, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and Licensed Educational Psychologist. Ashley is a returning graduate of the School Psychology/MFT program at ÂÌñ»»ÆÞ. Her experience includes providing psychoeducational assessments, individual counseling, group counseling, social-emotional instruction, and consultation services within the public school system. Ashley currently works as a School Psychologist at a California State Special School and provides supervision to ÂÌñ»»ÆÞ School Psychology Trainees.
Ulash Thakore-Dunlap, LMFT
Clinical Supervisor
Ulash Thakore-Dunlap is a licensed therapist (LMFT) with over 15 years experience providing school based mental health services, working in community mental health, and private practice. Ulash’s clinical experiences and area of research interests include school-based mental health, South Asian and Asian American mental health, graduate counseling education, and supporting emerging leaders. Ulash is passionate about creating community collaborations and is active within her community and currently serves as Training Advisory Committee Member for the American Psychological Association (APA) Minority Fellowship Program, past Commissioner for the San Francisco Behavioral Health Commission, and past board member at the Asian-American Psychological Association. Ulash co-edited and published Counseling and Psychotherapy for South Asian Americans: Identity, Psychology and Clinical Implications, the first book of its kind in the United States exploring the counseling needs of South Asian Americans.
Molly Williams, LMFT
Clinical Supervisor
Molly is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with experience working in clinic, school, home, and community settings with a range of clients from children to adults, individuals, families and couples. Molly currently provides clinical supervision at a non-profit community mental health clinic located in Richmond, CA, and at a group practice based in San Francisco, CA. She also has her own private practice wherein she specializes in treatment of anxiety and relationship issues. Molly has her Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) Credential in School Counseling and is a returning graduate of the School Counseling/MFT program at ÂÌñ»»ÆÞ.
Stephanie Lancet, MEd
Outreach Coordinator
Stephanie supports the CCC by coordinating the day-to-day administration and operations of the CCC and serving as a liaison between and providing support to CCC Co-Directors, clinical supervisors, trainees, and clients. Stephanie facilitates the documentation and implementation of CCC policies and procedures, and leads data collection and reporting process for the CCC. Stephanie is a professional in the K-12 public education field with experience in community engagement and systems change through research, advocacy, and policy. Stephanie received her Master’s in Education from Teachers College, Columbia University and her Bachelor’s in Economics and Philosophy from Boston College.
