Online Major
The Online Ethnic Studies Degree Program is identical to the existing Ethnic Studies Program, with the exception that the degree is attained entirely online. Students participating in the Online Degree Ethnic Studies Degree Program may choose from any of our areas of concentration:
- American Indian Studies
- Asian American Studies
- Black Studies
- Chicanx/Latinx Studies
- Comparative Ethnic Studies
- Genders and Sexualities in Communities of Color.
The Online Ethnic Studies Degree Program guarantees that all of the courses you need to complete your major will be available within a two-year time frame (for transfer students).
Please note that in addition to major requirements, every student must also complete the University requirements for graduation described in the Baccalaureate Degree Requirements chapter in the front of the University catalog.

Tips for Success in Online Courses
- Be willing to learn how to navigate Canvas, the online learning platform.
- Have access to an adequate computer, high speed internet access, and a newer version of Microsoft Word (available at bookstore for a student discount price!)
- Be self-disciplined and self-directed. Study the syllabus. The syllabus is a contract between you and the professor. Set up a calendar so you can write down all your assignment due dates.
- Check Canvas regularly, usually at least twice per week, although some professors will expect you to check even more often.
- Ask for help as soon as you encounter a problem! In addition to asking for help from your professor, you can also contact other students through blackboard.
