The STEM LAB is now hiring Course Learning Assistants in Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Math, Physics, Psychology, and Statistics. We are also hiring an Administrative Learning Assistant, who are our front desk staff. The priority deadline is November 18th. Frequently Asked Questions Regarding Hiring
- Is the STEM LAB hiring? → Applications open in March for the following Fall semester, and in October for the following Spring semester.
- For which courses are you hiring? → All open positions are listed on the LA Application. Once you start the application, the second section will list every course for which we are hiring LAs that semester.
- I am a graduate student. Can I still apply? → No, only undergraduate students are eligible for LA positions. You should check with your department, SCAA, and Project IMPACT to see if they are hiring.
- I am an incoming freshmen student. Can I still apply? → No, incoming freshmen students who have not yet started at ÂÌñ»»ÆÞ are not eligible for LA positions. Please check our website in March/October to apply to be an LA during your second semester!
- What if I didn’t take that exact class, but I took a higher-level one? → You are still eligible to apply and can explain the situation in your application.
- Can I apply if I’m currently taking the course and don’t know what my final grade will be? → Yes! If you get offered the position, then we will confirm your final grade after grades post.
- What if I took the AP class in high school and it won’t show up on my college transcript? → You are still eligible to apply and can explain the situation in your application.
- For the “faculty referral”, does it have to be a professor? → For the Course LA position, yes it should be a faculty member from any institution who can confirm you would do well in an academic position. Please give us the faculty member’s contact information and inform them that we do not require them to write a letter of recommendation.
If you are only applying for the Admin LA or Communications Lead positions, it can be a former supervisor, advisor, or other professional reference.
- How do I access my unofficial transcript to include in my application? →

- Click on "Student Center" on the left-hand side (about mid-page)
- In the "Academic" section, select the drop-down menu
- Select "Transcript: View Unofficial"
- Click the arrow ">>" button
- Select "Student Unofficial Transcript" for the "Report Type"
- Click "View Report"
- Then you'll be able to download and save it as a pdf.
- Do I need to submit a resume or cover letter? → No, resumes, CVs, cover letters, and letters of recommendation are not needed.
- What if the course does not fit into my schedule? → LAs are only assigned to courses that fit within their schedule. If you are offered a position and then your availability changes, we will do our best to assign you to another course if you are eligible.
- Can I be an LA if I have another job on-campus? → Yes! Students can work up to 20 hours a week total between all on-campus jobs. LAs typically work roughly 10 hours per week.
- What is the pay rate? → The LA position starts at $17.86 per hour.**
