Peribanez is said to dramatize the sturdy character and heroic struggle of the Spanish peasantry against the injustice done by some perverse member of the nobility. Of course it is inconceivable for a peasant to lay hands on his overlord. So order is restored through the king’s intercession.

Dream of a Common Language

This is a play about love, trust, equality, friendship, and art. In the play, set in the late 19th Century, an Impressionist painter’s wife poses in the nude for him, as he tells her, “I love to see the light on your skin.” A painter herself, she longs to be allowed a similar freedom to “set the light free” by painting a male nude model. Tension in the play is about whether she will achieve that freedom.
