Pre-Award

The Pre-Award Team assists investigators with funding source identification, proposal development and submission to sponsors. In addition, they help communicate to investigators any training or other required forms to be completed at the pre-award stage, including but not limited to conflict of interest disclosures and training, subrecipient identification and budgeting, human subjects or use of animals in research, faculty release or additional compensation budgeting, issues surrounding international collaborations, and various other pre-award related issues. They also assist with award approvals and requirements if notification of funding is received.

Contact chantal.ebarle@csueastbay.edu to get access to , an online funding database and search tool.  If you are interested in private sources, contact susan.wageman@csueastbay.edu.  You can also access other sources through a list of funding sources and other databases.

All submissions to external sponsors require university review and approval.   If you are not sure, contact proposals@csueastbay.edu.  Provide the name of the sponsor, the program name, the deadline, and a link to the funding guidelines or sponsor's page.  

For faculty, you will need to inform your chair and dean.  For senior staff (Managers, AVP's, VP's), ensure your supervisor is aware.  All proposals need to be reviewed by ORSP then routed (via our Cayuse system) to your chair/dean (or supervisor), the CFO, and the AVP of Research and Sponsored Programs.  Additional approvals may apply.

We strongly advise you email proposals@csueastbay.edu or submit a Cayuse entry at least 30 days (or earlier) prior to the proposal submission deadline.

Potential overlaps should be identified in your current/pending document, and you should provide an explanation on how they may be resolved.  This may involve adjusting the scope of work, revising the budget, and/or modifying your time commitments.
Note that if there is an overlap, it should be addressed with the sponsor and resolved before a new award can be accepted.  Otherwise, you may not be able to accept the new award.  Addressing overlap may be done at the pre-award or post-award stage.  You'll also need to discuss any project changes for any grants as part of your annual progress reporting process for those grants.  Be transparent, comprehensive, and discuss any concerns with your chair/dean/ORSP before contacting the sponsor.
